How to Volunteer

Step 1: Schedule Your First Day

Please schedule your first volunteer day using the booking form below.
(Look for the blue box on the picture on the booking page.)

Don’t forget All minors must be accompanied by an adult on their first visit. – Minors under the age of 8 must always have a parent or guardian present.

Step 2: Complete the Waiver

The waiver must be completed before you begin volunteering (link below). Be sure to complete one waiver per person; for those who will be volunteering or onsite.

Step 3: Arrival Instructions

Arrive at the gate at the date and time you selected. A volunteer member will meet you there. Do not enter on your own.
 Please check your email for important day-of information and updates.


Evening Volunteer Opportunities

If you are interested in volunteering during the evening:

  1. Complete the waiver using the link above.
  2. Email Patti O. at Pattio@thegudark.com to schedule your evening shift.

If you have a craft, skill, or service you’d like to contribute to one of our projects, we’d love to hear from you! We’re always looking for creative ways to grow and improve.

Other Ways to Volunteer

– If you’d like to volunteer but prefer non-farm-related tasks, we have other opportunities available — just let us know!
– We love hosting group volunteers! If you’re interested in bringing a group, please contact us to coordinate your visit.

Summer Volunteer Opportunities
We are looking for animal-loving volunteers to join us this summer! Here are the details for our summer and winter shifts:

Summer Morning Hours: – Start time: Between 5:00 AM and 6:00 AM – End time: Flexible (Typically a 2–3-hour shift) – Tasks: Feed, water, and care for the animals, plus general maintenance around the sanctuary.

Summer Evening Hours: – Start time: 1 hour to 1.5 hours before sunset – End time: Typically, 1 hour to complete – Tasks: Topping off water, animal checks, ensuring everyone is where they should be.

Winter Hours: – Start time: Around 8:00 AM – End time: Flexible (Typically a 2–3-hour shift) – Tasks: Feed, water, clean up after the animals, and socialize with them.

Winter Evening Hours: – Start time: 1 hour to 1.5 hours before sunset – End time: Typically, 1 hour to complete – Tasks: Topping off water, animal checks, ensuring everyone is in their proper place.

-Here are some things to know: 

• Wear weather appropriate old clothing 

• Old closed-toe shoes (Easy off shoes recommended – one animal building is a ‘No Shoes’ area) and you will be walking among many piles of poop :). 

• Bring lots of hydration beverages (Water refill station available). Bring snacks. We have a Restroom for Volunteers and Visitors named: “Outhouse”. 

• Highly Recommended: Work gloves, sun hat, sunscreen, sunglasses. 

• Park parallel along the front fence of our property line. Do not block gate. 

• Text Ellese 520-510-3555 with: Your name and the word ‘Volunteer’. Wait at the gate.

– Water (lots of it!) – Snacks – Sunscreen – Hat – Gardening gloves – Weather-appropriate clothing – Old closed-toed shoes (you’ll get dirty!)
