The animals are our reason, but our volunteers are the heartbeat of The Gud Ark. Through blazing 120-degree days and quiet, chilly mornings, they show up with compassion, strength, and unwavering dedication. Whether they are helping at events, taking on special projects, or transporting animals to safety, they give their time and their hearts without hesitation. Because of them, hope keeps moving forward. Because of them, we can continue to be a safe haven for the animals who need us most.
Pioneers
Alongside the founders, these individuals have been part of The Gud Ark from its earliest days, helping shape the sanctuary's foundation and direction. Through financial support, steadfast dedication, and countless hours of hard work, they have given deeply of themselves to build something lasting. The Gud Ark would not be what it is today without their continued commitment and meaningful contributions at every stage of its journey.
Amy
Vice President | Lead Volunteer TrainerAmy began volunteering with The Gud Ark in 2022, shortly after moving to Maricopa and looking for a place where she could truly belong. After reading about the sanctuary in the Maricopa Monitor and getting involved, she quickly knew she had found that place. Today, she serves as Vice President and Lead Volunteer Trainer, often arriving before sunrise to spend time with the horses, work with the reptiles, and mentor fellow volunteers. Amy dedicates more than 40 hours each week to caring for animals big and small, and she describes The Gud Ark as her second home, her happiness, and her passion.

Bettyanne
Bettyanne joined The Gud Ark because she loves animals and wanted to spend her spare time doing something meaningful for them. She enjoys learning more about different animals, seeing the joy they bring to the community during events, and bonding with them one on one. She is especially drawn to the parrots and to birds in general because of their distinct personalities. She encourages anyone who loves animals, friendship, and time outdoors to consider volunteering because the experience is rewarding, exciting, and deeply worthwhile.
Caleb
Caleb volunteers because he wants to help animals and enjoys the teamwork involved in caring for them. He especially likes feeding the animals, giving them water, and helping clean up. Christine
Christine has been part of The Gud Ark since January 2025, helping care for a wide variety of animals. She loves large tortoises, dogs, and cows, and she also opens her own home to dogs in need. One of her regular responsibilities is collecting donated produce from local stores, sorting it, and helping prepare food for pigs, goats, cows, fowl, guinea pigs, rabbits, and tortoises. She also enjoys cooking and helping host annual volunteer gatherings that bring the volunteer community together.
Enaiya
Marketing ManagerEnaiya joined The Gud Ark because of her deep love for both animals and people. She is especially drawn to the way animals create comfort, support, and joy while bringing communities together. What stands out most to her is the sanctuary's commitment to community outreach and the positive impact it has on both animals and the people they serve. She especially enjoys watching the dogs play, and Fury and Olaf are her favorite animals.
Garrett
Garrett started volunteering because his mom thought he would love it, and she was right. He most enjoys taking care of the animals and being part of a kind, welcoming environment. Finn is his favorite, and he says volunteering is something others should try because it is fun and full of great animals and people.
Hailey
Hailey first joined The Gud Ark to complete the 100 volunteer hours required for her CAVIT veterinary science class, but she stayed long after meeting that goal. She especially values the volunteer community and says every chore day leaves her with a new memory. One of her favorite ways to help is by working events where she can educate the public about the animals she has come to know so well. Her favorite animals are the horses, snakes, and cats, and she encourages others to volunteer if they love animals, want hands-on learning opportunities, and are looking for a fun, welcoming community.

Kristina
Kristina found The Gud Ark with her boyfriend Riley in March 2025, the same year they moved to Maricopa. Because she has loved and cared for animals since childhood, volunteering at the sanctuary felt like a natural fit, and she quickly connected with the love and passion shown to every animal there. She especially enjoys being back on a farm, doing chores, and giving the animals attention and affection. Little Pepper the pony is especially meaningful to her because she reminds Kristina of her childhood pony. She believes The Gud Ark is a special place for animal lovers and for anyone looking for purpose, connection, and joy.
Liam and Ileana
Liam and Ileana volunteer because they care deeply about animals and believe in The Gud Ark's mission to help those who need it most. They feel fortunate to be part of a team that values hands-on care, kindness, and community support, and they enjoy spending time with horses, donkeys, and a wide range of sanctuary rescues.
Liv
Liv first connected with The Gud Ark after attending summer camp, an experience that made such a strong impression that she wanted to return and give back as a volunteer. She especially loves watching rescued animals grow comfortable around the people caring for them and seeing their excitement during daily routines and completed chores. Although she says it is impossible to choose just one favorite animal because each has a unique personality, she encourages others seeking fulfillment, enrichment, and joy to visit and get involved. Liv also shares that time at the sanctuary helped her through a deep depression by giving her hope as she watched the animals run, play, and thrive.
Mandi
Mandi joined The Gud Ark in August 2024 to spend more time interacting with and learning about the animals. Volunteering also became an important way for her to do something for herself after becoming a stay-at-home mom. She loves that every day at the sanctuary brings something new, and some of her favorite moments include giving the pigs belly rubs and spending time with the horses. Although choosing just one favorite is difficult, JoJo will always be her number one girl.
Mia
Mia joined because The Gud Ark felt like an amazing place filled with kind, helpful people and animals she immediately loved. She enjoys doing chores with friends and appreciates how accepting the sanctuary is, allowing everyone to contribute fully and feel included. She has a long list of favorite animals, including the ducks, chickens, geese, horses, Lily the porcupine, the sulcata tortoises, the office reptiles, the dogs, and the birds. Mia encourages others to join because volunteers are welcomed for who they are, and the work is meaningful, fun, and far more rewarding than they might expect.

Together, they enjoy caring for the animals and learning about species they would not normally have the chance to meet up close. Mike especially loves playing with the ferrets and dogs, while Brook enjoys caring for the goats, donkeys, and dogs. Their favorite animals include Kevin the emu and Brodee, and they encourage others to volunteer for the chance to make meaningful memories while supporting both the animals and the community.
